About the jewelry...

I have been posting a LOT about jewelry, especially over on twitter and facebook, and also here on my official site. I got into vintage, new and handmade jewelry as more of a hobby than a business. I have acquired quite a bit and am selling some of it off on etsy and yardsellr. This is all VERY TEMPORARY. I will be wrapping up the business side of it within the next few months, after I unload most of what I have, and I will not be continuing with it, much past then. I may be making more jewelry for fun on a small scale. My main business is, and is likely to always be, my psychic work. Yet I always prefer to leave room for whatever direction my creativity decides to take.

Life Coaching and Hypnotherapy...

I was the subject of an interview last Spring (the interview was a feature in the Summer issue of Target Audience Magazine) where I was asked by the interviewer (GL Giles) if I would ever consider branching off into Life Coaching. As someone who has been doing readings and my own brand of Life Coaching for over 18 years, at the time of the interview I saw no need to change things up or switch directions. Yet.... GL got me thinking about it, so I decided 'Why not?' And I went ahead and took some online courses and became a Life Coach (certified by The American University of NLP). I am also currently taking more classes and am working toward becoming a certified Hypnotherapist as well. Back in the 90's I was very much into hypnotherapy, and I conducted meditation groups and classes using guided imagery, which utilized the same techniques as hypnotherapy. I performed these guided imagery meditations for personal clients as well. I am looking forward to working with this art and science again for clients who are interested.

Vintage to new jewelry

As some of you know, I have been selling vintage jewelry at my etsy shop.

I have recently purchased so much jewelry, I have less than a third of it posted in my etsy shop. Many more items are coming, as soon as I find the time to get them listed! In other news, I also have new jewelry, a lot of which is still in its original packaging. I have listed both vintage and NEW items over at my yardsellr yard sale.

The time has come for me to renew, or not to renew the MetaCreative Magazine domain, and I have chosen not to renew. Similarly, I let the official website for MetaCreative Radio go last year. Even though I found my work with 'MetaCreative' to be a fulfilling, adventurous run from 2006-2010, I have moved on to other projects.

Both new and long-time fans of MetaCreative Magazine can find all the published issues free on Scribd and all but one on Issuu (the Winter '09 issue has been flagged and removed from general view on the Issuu website due to adult content; based on the fact that the title of one of the articles had the word 'fuck' in it). Issues of MetaCreative Magazine are on a number of sites, and can always be located through Google as a third option.

My interest in carnivorous plants

My interest in carnivorous plants started when I discovered an infestation of fungus gnats in my houseplants. I had been using fly paper, insecticidal soap and neem oil in an attempt to control the little buggers, to no avail. I lost many little plant seedlings due to the fungus gnat larvae in the soil I was using (which I suspect were present in the soil when I purchased it).

I quickly became engrossed in my research about the fascinating varieties of carnivorous plants, and how they function in nature. Since insects have no problem sucking the sap out of our plants, I am intrigued that there are plants in nature that turn this phenomenon around on the little predators and eat them instead.

I am also fascinated by the animal-like nature of carnivorous plants. Normally, people view the animal and plant kingdoms as being very separate forms of life. Yet, in nature there are animals that resemble plants; just check out the ocean! To me, sea urchin and barnacles are almost cacti-like. I have seen real life flowers that look like starfish.

The carnivorous venus flytrap plants have traps that seem like little reptile mouths. The aptly named cobra lily, a variety of the pitcher plant, really does resemble a cobra. The plant and animal worlds are much more linked than we give them credit for, and carnivorous plants, to me, illustrate and represent this link.

During my research, I discovered that adding a layer of sand over the soil in my house plants, which I then covered with a generous layer of cedar moss, would take care of the gnat problem. I have now accumulated a total of ten carnivorous plants, no longer with a purpose of insect control as a top intention, but simply because they are cool little creatures. Hopefully some of them will survive in my care!

As of today, I will no longer be volunteering my services as an editor for OM Times Magazine. I can rest without guilt on this, knowing OM Times is in good hands with a strong team behind it. The anniversary issue that was released today has 220 pages! That's a lot of content for a magazine that comes out every two weeks. OM is obviously not hurting for additional content. Working for that magazine was a significant time commitment, and my energy is needed much more elsewhere right now.

A pot of herbal tea a tea may help keep the doctor away.... at least it can help cut down on the doctor visits! I'm a big fan and advocate of herbs. A nice cup of tea can promote healing as well as soothe and relax the body and mind... or stimulate them, depending on what herbs are used.

Even though death is a part of everyone’s life, many of us don’t like to think about the reality of our own death and what events may lead to it. Because of our fear of death, talking about certain details of it can sound morbid and gruesome. The prelude to its happening varies for each individual. In the situation where we have a pet that has an advanced degree of terminal illness and suffering, we have the opportunity to choose to have a veterinary doctor provide them with a quick and painless, dignified death that quickly brings an end to their suffering. However, Oregon is the only place in the United States where a terminally ill and suffering human patient can legally pursue a physician-assisted suicide.

To answer some of my questions, about the right to die, I invited Derek Humphry on the show to find out exactly what choices we do have if we end up in a position of extended suffering at the end of life. Derek Humphry is easily the most influential pioneer in the right to die movement. He founded the Hemlock Society in 1980 and has written 15 books including the number one best seller, Final Exit: The Practicalities of Self-Deliverance and Assisted Suicide for the Dying. Although I am having a conversation about possibilities of a right to choose our own death, I do believe all stages of life on earth have a purpose for learning and spiritual growth. I do not endorse ending your own life. This interview is about highly personal choices that are not for everyone to make.

Mystikka: Derek Humphry.

Derek Humphry: Hello.

Mystikka: Would you please explain the purpose of the Hemlock Society and how it came to be?

Derek Humphry: The Hemlock Society was started by myself in 1980 because so many people were asking me about their own euthanasia; how would they do if if they wanted to, and what would the drugs be and so forth. This was as a consequence of the publication in England and America of my book, Jean’s Way, which describes how I helped my first wife to die when she was suffering from terminal cancer and close to death. The Hemlock Society lasted until 2003 and then I was no longer with it, I had retired. In 2003 the Hemlock Society was merged and became an organization called Compassion and Choices. So the Hemlock Society as such, doesn’t exist now, but it had a fruitful 23 years existence.

Mystikka: You have written 15 books, correct?

Derek Humphry: Correct, yes. The last five books are about various aspects of euthanasia, historically, how to, etc.

Mystikka: And Final Exit has been your most popular since it reached the status of the number 1 best seller?

Derek Humphry: Yes.

Mystikka: How many copies have been sold?

Derek Humphry: Well over a million. Because it is sort of a how to, it is the sort of book people buy when they need it. You don’t buy it for pleasure reading, but wellness of yourself or a loved one, member of the family. That’s when people turn out and buy Final Exit to see what the various options are.

Mystikka: What does the term “death with dignity” mean to you?

Derek Humphry: It means a death in the manner of your own choosing and at the time of your choosing.

Mystikka: I know that in your books, you discourage certain methods of self-deliverance and encourage others.

Derek Humphry: Yes.

Mystikka: It seems as if you have an opposition to methods that would be violent in some way, like using a handgun or hanging yourself, or whatever.

Derek Humphry: Oh, yes.

Mystikka: Can you tell us why that is?

Derek Humphry: Well, if you shoot yourself, then somebody else has to clean up the mess. If you blow your head off or your brains out, it’s a great shock and a terrible strain on the people who have to clean up the mess. If you jump from a high building, then you might land on somebody. People have landed on a passerby and killed them. There again, it is an appalling mess which is a shock to all who see it and have to clear it away. Hanging is often a matter of protest against family, so that when family or loved ones come across the body swinging from a rope, then there is a tremendous emotional shock which is often what the dead person intended. So that’s another field. The field that I talk about, explored and proselytized about, is death with dignity, which is non-violent and bloodless. It takes place in your bed or in your favorite armchair, with the right drug in the right proportion or by the use of helium gas. But it can happen quietly in your home in the presence of someone you love.

Mystikka: What ever happened to Seconal? I know that you mentioned Seconal as a preferred method for self-deliverance in your book Final Exit. I don’t believe that it is being manufactured anymore?

Derek Humphry: It has come back on the market. There was a hiccup when I think it was changed and wasn’t available, but it is available now on doctor’s prescription for dying people. The preferred, the very best drug for ending life is Nembutal which is Pentobarbital. That again is on doctor’s prescription. Doctors won’t give it unless there is a very, very good reason. But those two drugs are the ones used in Oregon for physician-assisted suicide, according to the law we have here in Oregon.

Mystikka: Yes, that was definitely one of my questions, how are they doing it in Oregon?

Derek Humphry: Well, it is the only state in the country which has the courage to promote this. It has now been going for eight years. It has survived all the legal challenges. Our defenses were too strong. In the eight years, people have used physician-assisted suicide in Oregon, it is carefully done. There has to be two doctors signed off on it, Hospice has to be explored. There has to be documentations and witnesses and a 15 day waiting when the patient asks the doctor to help them to die and the time the doctor hands over the prescription. There have been no glitches, no scandals. It has quietly progressed. More skilled people than I have been able to study it in Oregon; who does it and why and wherefore.

Mystikka: If somebody was depressed, would that get them disqualified?

Derek Humphry: Absolutely, yes. If they were terminally ill and depressed, the law says you have to treat the depression first. If they come out of the depression and are still terminally ill, then they can be helped to die, but it is very firm in the law of depressed people and old people. There is a specific provision to say that you can’t ask for help to die just on the grounds of old age or being physically or mentally handicapped. You have to be, and two doctors have to agree, by their diagnoses that you are dying.

Mystikka: And are they doing it the same way in the Netherlands?

Derek Humphry: Netherlands and Belgium, both countries have legalized voluntary euthanasia and physician-assisted suicide. Voluntary euthanasia is injection of the Seconal or Nembutal. That is the quickest, fastest, surest way. In the Netherlands and Belgium, the patient can choose to drink a lethal substance, so they have either or in the Netherlands. If you look at the statistics, nearly everybody chooses death by injection because it is so much quicker, but in Oregon it’s in the substance only. You cannot have it by injection.

Mystikka: Now Nembutal - Pentobarbital is what veterinary professionals use to euthanize animals, is that correct?

Derek Humphry: Yes, it is very lethal, of course, as it will kill a horse, and it’s been used that way. So, some people travel and buy veterinary Nembutal down there and come back and put it away ready for the day when they might use it. Let me say that a lot of people read my book and a lot of people go and get the drugs or helium gas and they put it away. They are just taking out insurance that their dying won’t be painful and distressing. The majority of the men die naturally in their sleep or of their illness without needing it. But an awful lot of people these days want control and choice in case they are one of the unlucky ones with a long and painful death.

Mystikka: How does helium work exactly to shut down the system?

Derek Humphry: Well, it is a very interesting method, which I and a couple of colleagues have developed over the last five years. Helium is not flammable, it is not explosive, it is in the air and it won’t kill you, otherwise, would they sell it to children? Children are the biggest buyers of helium to blow up their balloons! But we realized that if helium was inside of a plastic bag and your head was inside that plastic bag, it would bring about instant death. In a closed, not in the open air, in a closed thing like a plastic bag over the head, helium drives out the oxygen and the helium destroys the brain instantly. You take a couple gulps of helium straight in and you are in a coma in seconds and you are dead within 4 or 5 minutes from brain death, not suffocation or anything else. So it is the most commonly used form of self-deliverance, or euthanasia In America and spreading elsewhere. It is found to be quicker, more effective and reliable and the patient does it themselves. The key to helium is that they switch the tank on and bring about their own death if they choose, and that’s not a crime. Suicide is not a crime anywhere in America. Assisted suicide can be a crime in certain circumstances. Now there is no assistance here, the patient gets the helium and puts the bag over their head, the helium goes in through a pipe, and they put the gas on if they choose to. So no crime is committed, no doctor is involved. So many doctors in the AMA are all afraid being around this subject as if death didn’t exist. The helium method is used to bring their lives to a quick and desired end.

Mystikka: With the least amount of pain possible it sounds like.

Derek Humphry: Yes, certainty. So few doctors, even in Oregon will actually be present at the death bed. If you noticed, doctors avoid death beds like the plague. Very few doctors are at the bedside of a dying person. Not like we see it in the movies of old, and that’s what we think.

Mystikka: Yes, I’m thinking about Hospices right now. It seems in Hospices, they bring about a death to the person, but very slowly with morphine and such.

Derek Humphry: Yes. Hospices only accept dying people and the usual time span is likely to die within 6 months. They do a great job of easing the pain and looking after the person and in some cases that they add morphine or some other sedative, liberally as the pain increases and the patient is both dying and hastened to die by the pain medicine. So that’s very acceptable, the Pope accepts that, the U.S. Supreme Court accepts this. So there is no perfect answer, we don’t have the perfect answer, nor does anyone else. As a matter of record, 70% of the people who use the Oregon law to end their lives are in fact in Hospice already. But try as it may, Hospice cannot master every case and dying comes in many forms, many ways and there are different solutions.

Mystikka: I know that you encourage taking personal responsibility for your own life.

Derek Humphry: Yes. I call it the “Ultimate Civil Liberty”, taking dying in the manner of your own choosing, whether it might be the old fashioned way where you are just waiting for it to come and waiting for God to take you. All I am saying is, let’s have numerous choices, legally and above board and out in the open.

Mystikka: What are the most recent legal breakthroughs in the right to die movement?

Derek Humphry: Well, the Oregon law and the fact that the U.S. Supreme Court confirmed it. Holland and Belgium have legalized voluntary euthanasia and assisted suicide under careful conditions. Switzerland even allows people to come from other countries to end their lives. The person has to be in a very bad medical way and they check that out before they help them to die. A lot of people recently have been flying from Canada to Switzerland to be helped to die so this goes on a lot. But, they are open. If you get an assisted suicide in Switzerland it’s immediately reported and they check into it. As long as there is no hanky panky and it is all genuine and justified, then they do nothing, it’s all out in the open - transparent.

Mystikka: If you were to give the sole power to rewrite the laws in regards to self-deliverance or physician-assisted suicide, how would you change them?

Derek Humphry: You mean across America?

Mystikka: Yes, across America.

Derek Humphry: Well, I would introduce a careful law, with plenty of protections for voluntary euthanasia, which is death by injection, and physician-assisted suicide which is death by drinking a potion. I think the day will come, it may not come for 50 years or so, but the day will come across America when people like me are irrelevant and my books are in the dust bin, and euthanasia will be a generally accepted principle of freedom. Even in Spain and Italy, the so-called Catholic countries, they have right to die groups, they translate and sell my books. In Spain they are very close to changing the law on euthanasia. In Spain they have approved gay marriage and a women’s right to an abortion and euthanasia may be next. So across the world, step by step, it is coming. My books sell in Mexico, in Korea, in Turkey. My books sell in Turkey - in translations. So there is a general, quiet up-swell of interest on this independence in dying.

Mystikka: I read your blog recently and you had a great article about Doctor Kevorkian, of his role or his lack thereof in the right to die movement.

Derek Humphry: Yes.

Mystikka: In that article you referred to him as the Lone Ranger and I thought it might be interesting if you could elaborate on that.

Derek Humphry: All the years he was operating, he would have nothing to do with me or anybody else in the right to die movement. He was a Lone Ranger. He thought he could change the medical profession and change the law. We said to him, “No, you can’t. . . You are playing your part, but you can’t do it alone, you need teams and political strategists and so forth, to change the law.” I think as a condition of getting out of prison, he had to reverse his position and say, “I will work for a change in the law and wish I had done so in the first place.” That contributed to him getting parole. I’m glad he is out. He has done long enough, He is old and in poor health. But he changed his tune. I give Kevorkian credit for bringing this matter out into the public. I was there 10 years before him talking about this and writing books and talking on television and radio. But the news media was so fascinated by a doctor with a suicide machine, who dispatched patients. You think of that concept - Wow! Whenever do you hear that? So he got enormous publicity and he did help a lot of people who deserved help to die, to die. But the publicity of course, made people aware of the matter of the subject of euthanasia, right to die, etc. So he galvanized public opinion, of that there is no question, because of his unusual position as “Doctor Death” as he was called. He made a great mistake, very deliberately. When he was assisting the suicides of people, he was three times brought to trial and was acquitted. Then he euthanized a man by direct injection, made a video of it and caught a murder charge. The minute he jumped from assisted suicide to euthanasia . . . .The authorities in Michigan were not going to do anything about that even, he went on 60 Minutes, pointed his finger at the Attorney General, the District’s Attorney, and said, “Either you charge me or I’ve won”, those were his actual words on 60 Minutes, and of course the District Attorney was there to uphold the law so he had to do it. But they didn’t make the first move, it was Kevorkian who wanted a show trial and he thought for sure they would acquit him. Anglo American law does not allow you to ask to be killed. You cannot ask to be killed as the law stands in America. And there he was with the video. What could the jury do but convict him. It was right in your face. There wasn’t any argument there, so if he kept quiet about helping that man to die with the injection, nothing would have happened.

Mystikka: So what are you doing currently with your work? How can people find you onand your material online?

Derek Humphry: I have a very busy website which is www.finalexit.org, we are a non-profit organization, and assistedsuicide.org. So, I keep two busy websites, I have a blog and a list serve, constantly publishing books, selling books, I find myself busy six days a week. I am 77 years old and not the spring chicken I used to be.

Mystikka: You have had a very interesting life. I was reading your bio and saw that you had won a Martin Luther King Memorial award in the 70’s.

Derek Humphry: Yes.

Mystikka: For race relations in the U.K.?

Derek Humphry: Yes, I was a journalist for years on the London Sunday Times and finished up on the Los Angeles Times. Back in the 60’s there was a lot of racial tension and problems in Brittan as there were in America. I realized that there wasn’t a book which explained the habits, cultures and background of black people to white people. This is England we are talking of specifically. White people in England didn’t know why black people were different, spoke differently, had different food. So I wrote a book explaining to white people what black people were about What their way of life was. I called it Because They’re Black. It was a very simple book, using very plain language, no academic or fancy words and that sort of thing, so that the average worker, car mechanic, whatever, perhaps could learn to live more in peace with black people, because there was so much of this tension and violence in the time in England and America. The book did win the Martin Luther King Memorial prize for 1972. It’s an out of date book now, but it had its place and use.

Mystikka: It’s an interesting part of history.

Derek Humphry: I was a journalist for 40 years and mostly I wrote about, forgive the language, “shit” subjects. I wrote about immigration, I wrote about police violence, I wrote about corruption in Scotland Yard, I wrote about people who were sent to jail wrongly; sometimes there are miscarriages of justice so I specialized in that type of thing. But it was Jean’s death in 1975 which changed my life radically. I wrote then a help kit to die. Then I wrote a little book about it and that book became so controversial, it was published all over the world and I sort of got into and began to lead the right to die movement. I didn’t ask to do so; it sort of developed out of experience and the book.

Mystikka: It just took on a whole life of its own it seems.

Derek Humphry: Yes.

Mystikka: What kind of controversy has your work created? What have people said and done to derail your efforts?

Derek Humphry: I have been called a murderer and a killer, that sort of thing by people on the Evangelical Right to Life side, though that’s died down now and that hasn’t had much effect. It has settled down now, though we are trying hard to change the law. Meanwhile people are still dying, you know, that is the natural process of life and death. So we try to make more it more comfortable and more accessible to people who want access to the right to die information. But deep down and underneath, we are sort of building a war chest and plans to change the law state by state. Assisted suicide can’t be legalized by the Federal government; it has to be done state by state. That’s the way the constitution works out. So, we’ve won in Oregon and we are going to try in Washington State before long.

Mystikka: If someone wants to become politically active to help pass physician-assisted suicide laws, how would they get started?

Derek Humphry: Look on the internet. There is the Final Exit Network, which is a national group that sends out volunteers to be at the deathbeds of people who are ending it. There is Compassion and Choices, and they do much the same work as well as legislative work. There is my group, Ergo Euthanasia Research and Guidance Organization, and there is the totally politically group Death with Dignity National Center. So I think if you look on the internet, you could find the organizations, and one of which would appeal to your feelings and what you feel you could be useful to.

Mystikka: Is there anything we haven’t covered today that you would like to relay to the listeners?

Derek Humphry: No, I think you have covered most of the basis. I just hope that people will think intelligently about their right to die, the right to choose to die. One of the best things you can do is to assign a living will and power of attorney. Secondly, if I may say so, read my book Final Exit and then you can see what the pros and cons are, what the law is and so forth, and what the methods are. It is quite an easy book to read. And read other books on it and debate the matter and make up your mind.

What is Mail Art? Here is a blurb from Wikipedia:

Mail art is art which uses the postal system as a medium. The term mail art can refer to an individual message, the medium through which it is sent, or an artistic genre. Mail art is also known as postal art and is sometimes referred to as Correspondence/Mail Art (CMA).
Mail artists typically exchange ephemera in the form of illustrated letters, zines, rubberstamped, decorated or illustrated envelopes, artist trading cards, postcards, artistamps, faux postage, mail-interviews, naked mail, friendship books, decos, and three-dimensional objects.
An amorphous international mail art network, involving thousands of participants in over fifty countries, evolved between the 1950s and the 1990s. It was influenced by other movements, including Dada and Fluxus.
One theme in mail art is that of commerce-free exchange; early mail art was, in part, a snub of gallery art, juried shows, and exclusivity in art. This project has brought be back to memories of my teenage-hood, when time did not translate to money and I was free to invest my energy where I wanted without concern of bills that needed to be paid. In the late 80’s and early 90’s I had never heard about the mail art movement, however in the spirit of passionate fun (and also because I was often grounded to my room with nothing else to do), I spent hours decorating envelopes with colored markers and pencils. I would cover nearly every part of each envelope with little flowers, rainbows, peace signs, hearts, eyeballs, ankh symbols - blue, green and brown earth globes and other planets and stars. I would outline the images in a black ball point pen. I loved to make vivid psychedelic letters that would be a treat to the person receiving it. As an added bonus, I learned that when I wanted to get someone’s attention, these letters were the way to do it.

Every day, I would anxiously await the arrival of the mail truck. Some days I would receive nothing, other days I would receive more than several pieces of mail. Most of the celebrities and other interesting folks I wrote to would write me back. Some of them wrote long letters, some sent signed photos or photo postcards. Occasionally, I would get an actual gift or a phone call.

Later on, in my late teens, I lived on my own and was consumed with the responsibilities of paying rent and other bills. I was exhausted from working minimum wage jobs. In my spare time I hung out with my friends so all my time was accounted for. I stopped creating mail art.

Recently I became aware of the fact that a number of galleries around the world host these mail art gallery events, and anyone can participate. You don’t have to be an accomplished or traditionally skilled artist to express yourself on a blank postcard and get your art seen. You can even get credits on your artist resume for these shows!

It’s always great to have an old passion re-sparked!

Greetings and welcome!

The Love Crisis Survival Guide is written as a spiritual yet practical approach to self-empowerment in the relationship process. Some parts of this book may feel a bit uncomfortable to read, because I don’t sugarcoat information that could be perceived by many as bitter. I will always encourage you to take responsibility for the reality that you create.

I have come to understand a great deal about relationship crisis resolution as a result of my experience counseling many thousands of people as a professional psychic since 1993. Although my job dwells outside the lines of what appears “normal” to mainstream society, it has allowed me to tap into the core of humanity - the most interconnected area of the human psyche and condition.

When I began providing psychic readings, it didn’t take long to notice that nearly everyone who consulted me used the same lower-level strategies to deal with drama in their relationships. Although there were always some differences in the details surrounding issues in my clients’ love lives, most of them were asking the same questions, doing the same things and ending up with the same results. The common questions I have always had from clients are:

“What is he or she feeling about me and our relationship?”

“When will I hear from him or her?”

“When is he/she going to call?”

“When will I see him or her?”

“Will we ever be a ‘real’ couple, and when (There are variations of this question, such as: “When will he/she commit?” or “When will he propose?”)?”

I feel I must start off by addressing the fact that, ‘WHEN’ is truly a four-letter word of the worst kind when it comes to getting readings. Psychic energy comes from a non-linear place, outside of the space-time continuum.

We as people have the free will to make choices and take actions that can alter the time it takes for a situation or event to transpire. Therefore, it is my opinion that psychics are not able to provide consistent, accurate timeframes for their predictions.

Many people call psychic readers for a ‘fix’ of hope when they are not getting it directly from their love interest. When a client feels emotionally neglected by someone significant, the psychic can appear to be the best candidate to assure them that they are loved by the object of their affection, or that the ex boyfriend or girlfriend is coming back.

Many clients develop an addiction to psychic readings, hoping that the information revealed will calm their tumultuous emotions or fill the proverbial hole in their hearts. The sense of peace obtained by the client usually fades very quickly when doubt starts to kick in again shortly after a reading. They seek further solace by getting more readings. In extreme cases, clients may call psychics several times a day, even if they have accumulated many thousands of dollars in debt.

These clients end up losing more than just vital amounts of money in their quest for privileged information. They also end up with so many different opinions circulating around in their heads as a result of all the different psychic readings they have received, that it becomes increasingly difficult to be at peace with themselves long enough to discern the inner voice of their own intuition.

Most psychics that I know personally only want to see the client succeed and find happiness in their lives. Granted, there are always deceptive and manipulative bad seeds in the bunch that give the rest of the psychic community a bad name. Psychics who have integrity are still only able to actually help clients who are willing to remain teachable.

Psychic consultations can be used as a powerful tool if they are obtained with enlightened intentions by a seeker who understands the limitations of a reading. However, there is a common misconception in this society that the purpose of a psychic is simply to predict the future in the way of fortune telling. While genuine psychics can see the short-term outcome of some situations that have already been set in motion, we are not able to see forward and backward through time as if we were omnipresent.

Common ground between me and other readers I respect is that we strive to help the client stretch the understanding of their role in the creation of their lives. In fact, many successful spiritually based psychics that I know make it a point to educate their clients about the fact that predictions are unreliable. Our futures are not set in stone, because the universe allows us to alter the course of our lives with the power of our thoughts, decisions and actions.

Psychics who are spiritually inclined have an ability to rise above the petty aspects of life and see pieces of a greater picture, or a ‘Grand Design.’ We are sensitive to the directions that someone’s personal life path may take based on the decisions they have made and are currently making. We see and feel patterns in people’s lives that may restrict their potential success, and we have an awareness of how to help the client obliterate them.

While therapists generally get their knowledge from textbooks, spiritual psychics receive information from ‘the other side,’ ‘spirit guides,’ ‘the source’ or ‘the light.’ Psychics can tap into their gifts naturally, and also through meditation and psychic development techniques. Some psychics excel with the aid of divination tools like the tarot, runes, the I Ching, palmistry, numerology, tea leaves or astrology. Other readers prefer to use their empathic or clairvoyant skills when conducting sessions. Each psychic has their own style when it comes to deciphering and delivering his or her readings.

Psychic abilities are no different than gut instincts; a sixth sense, discernment, mother’s intuition, or any other more generic term that describes an inner knowing that transcends logic. However, just because everyone has the potential to give and receive psychic energy does not mean that they can often interpret the vibrations accurately, or that they have the gift of being able to communicate in a way that can relay the information to others in a helpful manner.

Sylvia is the president of the Sylvia Browne Corporation; and is the founder of her church, the Society of Novus Spiritus, located in Campbell, California.

Mystikka Jade: First, I wanted to ask you about one of your latest books, ‘Mystical Traveler.’ What exactly is a mystical traveler? What is the difference between that and a mission-life entity, which you also speak about in the book?

Sylvia Browne: Well, most of us are mission life entities. I mean, we come down here on a specific mission. There are certainly people that are more driven than others, who like to create something like Oprah has, or some bigger thing, like to work for animals.

But a mystical traveler is someone who gives up his or her will totally to God. In other words, you don’t have any free will choice anymore. So you decide to take on all the keys; the fortitude, the mercy, honesty, loyalty and gratitude. But there are a lot of pluses with that. You get psychic and healing ability, more levity, infused knowledge and greater intelligence. But you really have to take the oath.

I’ve talked to so many people before I wrote the book, and people would say to me, ‘There’s something more inside of me that I want to do to gain higher intelligence or higher spirituality.’ And that’s the person who is really a candidate for a mystical traveler.

Mystikka: Wow! It sounds to me like, when you’re describing a mystical traveler, that it’s someone who has no ego. Do you feel that a mystical traveler is someone who has eliminated the ego, or do they still struggle with it?

Sylvia: You know, all my life, I’ve heard this word ‘ego.’ And not because you asked me, but it makes me crazy. I am who I am. I am Sylvia. And, ‘ego’ taken from the Greek is ‘I am.’ If you know who you are, you’re happy with who you are, and you know you’re doing God’s work, you don’t have to worry about ego.

Mystikka: I guess where I am coming from when I use the word ‘ego’ is more to describe the side of ourselves that is based in fear or the dark side… So concerned with image that we often will overlook the greater picture of things…

Sylvia: Oh yeah but see, the more you get out with people the more you lose that. That’s too self- centered. It’s like, so many psychics are afraid to be wrong. And I say, well good Lord! Anyone who has any brain cells is going to be wrong.

I even said to John Edwards, ‘Don’t get caught up in your own press releases!’

Mystikka: (Laughs) Right! That’s a good one.

Sylvia: The bigger you are and the more you’re doing, the less time you have to think about yourself, or how you look, or what you’re doing or what you’re saying. I go out on stage and say ‘God, hit it!’ That’s all.

Mystikka: Or we have less time to be concerned about what other people are saying.

Sylvia: Who cares? Nobody’s winning a popularity contest here. Who in the hell is going to love everybody? Not everyone is going to love you, so who cares? I’ve been asked, ‘What do you do with skeptics?’ I said I don’t care about them. I don’t even think about them.

Mystikka: That’s good. I know you have a son (Chris) that does readings. I was wondering, do you feel that psychic healing or mystical abilities are hereditary?

Sylvia: I do believe that, there are over 300 years of us. Of course I had already done it, but a woman, God love her, in Seattle, actually did my genealogy and looked it up. My grandmother was (psychic), her mother was, her brother was, her mother’s mother was… God, we go back so many years. I am, my son is a wonderful psychic. My granddaughter is, so it seems like the beat goes on. Of course I believe it comes from God, but I do believe with all of my heart that we chose a genetic component part to this.

Mystikka: Right, and then it can just be fined tuned I’m sure, with your influence on your son and on your granddaughter.

Sylvia: Yes, my son, I can’t even believe this, is 42 now and he’s done Hay House Radio. And people are starting to call and say that he is just marvelous, and he really is marvelous. It certainly does not seem to diminish with age, it seems to get stronger the more you use it.

The fear of being wrong, you know… oh to hell with that. Just open up your mouth and say it.

Mystikka: Yes, well nobody is one hundred percent accurate anyway.

Sylvia: And wouldn’t it be scary if you were?

Mystikka: Mmm hmm!

Sylvia: People ask me, ‘Can you read my mind?’ And I say, ‘If you could do that, you’d probably be walking around smacking everybody!’

Mystikka: (Laughs) Yeah. And nobody else would have any privacy either.

Sylvia: No, there’s a privacy act. Even your spirit guide can’t get into your mind unless you give permission.

Mystikka: And some clients don’t want to give you permission to get into their thoughts, or feelings, or into their lives. A lot of them will call with a closed mind and closed attitude and test you, and throw a lot of negativity at you.

Sylvia: I don’t put up with that though. I say, ‘This is over now.’ It takes so much energy to get through all that negativity.

Mystikka: To break down those walls…

Sylvia: Oh, no. I say, ‘You’ve got a full refund, see ya.’

The Image of a Psychic

I have resisted blogging about my recent trials and tribulations because they have arrived in sequences and I haven’t felt as if I have really reached a time of rest between the hurdles. I usually prefer to write from a place of resolved understanding, where I can detail out lessons learned and put something out there that can perhaps inspire others who are going through similar difficulties.

An alternative would be to write while in the midst of the struggle, which if mishandled, could easily result in a list of complaints or pages of self indulgent venting. Because of my work as a psychic, I have often allowed myself to succumb to the feeling that I must promote the image of myself as a teacher at all times in my public life. Many people who consult with psychics for guidance do not want to see us as human beings with frailties who are sometimes grappling around in the dark trying to find answers like everyone else.

I can understand the pressure that spiritual teachers in the public eye face. Let’s take Deepak Chopra just for example. I have befriended him on social networks and have been impressed with the wise, intricate, thoughtful blogs he has posted. I am really not one to embrace the word ‘guru,’ (as it seems to encourage the idea of looking outside of oneself for an identity) however if I did, I would say he really embodies the guru / teacher archetype. Now, imagine if Deepak Chopra started posting status updates on myspace that said “I have food poisoning, my car broke down and my house was toilet papered today!”

Life on this earth plane is not all rainbows and roses for anyone. We all experience grief, loss, illness and inconvenience and when these things come in high doses in a short period of time they can really temporarily wear down a positive attitude. Although some have a higher tolerance for the cornucopia of aches and pains life can bring, I seriously doubt if Deepak or any spiritual teachers are immune to their effects. In fact (without naming names, of course) I have personally known metaphysical authors in the public eye who have sides to their personalities that would absolutely shock and horrify their following.

If Deepak decided to bypass ‘laying low’ during a bad day and started venting to his network of supporters, imagine what that would do to his public image? Some people would understand and empathize; however the ones who pedestalize him would be bewildered by the ‘great guru’s’ human side and would probably stop buying his books. They might even try to ‘fix’ him with their own unsolicited advice.

The spiritual side of me isn’t concerned with what people think of me or expect from me. However, the practical side of me who understands the people whom I counsel and the expectations that they hold, has been skeptical of making a decision that could compromise my reputation as an advisor just so that I can have the emotional release of writing an honest and very human blog.

Regardless, I have come to the conclusion that, as usual, balance is the key. We all need to discover our own solutions and it is not my responsibility to be a constant source of guidance, or to uphold any image based on others expectations of what a psychic or spiritual teacher should be. I am still not quite ready to write about the trials and tribulations I have been enduring, however I am ready to write on a personal level again and let people get to know me better if they wish to. I have so much to say, and now that I have put the magazine on hold (a project that consumed almost every minute of my free time since early 2007) I once again have the time to say it.

Hi! I haven't updated in awhile. I often resist blogging nowadays because, the way the internet has evolved over the years, it has become increasingly more difficult to separate ones 'public' life from ones personal life when they let their thoughts roam free online. At one time, blogging to me was a lot like journaling. I am no longer comfortable treating it as such.

As for personal news I don't mind sharing... I did move out of state in March. I have also been dealing with the setback of bronchitis the past 2 weeks, so I have a lot of work to catch up on both with my psychic clients as well as MetaCreative Magazine. The next month is going to be very full and busy!

Lenora Claire is a true trail-blazer who is turning heads all over the world with her unique beauty and wide spectrum of creative talents and projects.

I discovered Lenora Claire a few years ago on a web show called ‘Ring My Bell (RuPaul was also a guest),’ where I saw her eating a glass light bulb! Right away, I knew I would always remember her. Since then I have seen her popping up all over the media, and as much as she’s accomplished, I’m sure it is only the beginning of much more to come from this diva-licious force of nature!

Mystikka: Lenora, you have explored and excelled in so many diverse creative mediums. You have curated art events in Los Angeles, including the critically acclaimed 'Golden Gals Gone Wild' show that featured erotic portraits of The Golden Girls. You are also a muse and model for well known artists and photographers such as Olivia De Berardinis, Glen Hanson and Austin Young. You're a 'Scream Queen' film actress, a writer, celebrity interviewer and a glass-eater. Do you plan to continue to 'do it all,' or would you like to narrow your focus to anything specific in the near future?

Lenora: Of course I plan to continue doing all of those things as they are my passion, but I would say my aspirations have me working towards doing more television and large scale art shows that will travel the world.

Mystikka: What new developments have 2009 brought to your career so far?

Lenora: I'll be appearing in seven books, and launching my largest art show so far with Olivia and several other legendary artists. I really can't say too much about it other than you are going to hear about it all over the media in late Spring.

Mystikka: You recently posed for the legendary pinup artist Olivia De Berardinis. What has it been like working with her?

Lenora: Absolutely amazing. I never would have imagined at 15 years old when I had her work plastered on my bedroom walls that I would model for her and develop such a nice friendship. I have an intense amount of respect for her as well as her husband Joel who runs all of her business matters. They are as creative and charming as they are kind. I'm especially excited to get the opportunity to work on this semi-secret art show with her as well. There is so much potential. I walk around with a constant grin.

Mystikka: Your work seems to be embraced especially in the gay community, and you have worked with a lot of openly gay or gay friendly artists. How did you begin to find yourself so closely knit with the LGTB culture?

Lenora: Well, I've always sort of gravitated to anyone who is open minded and artistic and without even realizing it one day I woke up and 90% of my friends just happened to be gay. The LGBT community has been so amazing and supportive of me. I worked as a writer for the oldest and largest LGBT publication in Los Angeles for four years, and have appeared on Sirius Out Q radio, as well as a regular on the Queer Edge the now defunct queer network. Oh and don't let me forget about World of Wonder who were kind enough to take a chance on me. I know Golden Gals Gone Wild wouldn't have been the success it was without all of their support.

Mystikka: I have noticed that The Golden Girls appeal to a large gay male audience, why do you think that is?

Lenora: Would I be cheating if I answered that it was because they have the best taste? People forget how progressive Golden Girls was for its time. Dorothy had a cross dressing brother, not to mention the fact that is was just about the first sitcom show to address HIV. Also, I'm not sure how many people are hip to it but Marc Cherry who created Desperate Housewives wrote many episodes of the Golden Girls and he is a big 'ol Mo.

Mystikka: Please tell us a little bit about World Of Wonder and your experience with them.

Lenora: Where do I begin? I was a fan of World of Wonder and their amazing films and television programs before I knew them socially. I would say James St. James was my first friend in the WOW world. I met James almost five years ago when he came to an art show I produced for my good friend Gidget Gein who recently passed away. Of course I had known all about James for years and absolutely LOVED his book Party Monster which was turned in to a film by World of Wonder. From there on I just kind of clicked with everyone at WOW. I can honestly say I haven't met a person there I didn't like. They're all fabulous and creative in their own ways and share a similar sensibility.

So anyway, World of Wonder owns this beautiful historic building right on the Hollywood Blvd walk of fame. I had wanted to do my erotic Golden Girls show (which I later named Golden Gals Gone Wild), and had an unpleasant experience with another gallery. I was desperate to find a new home for the show. The lower level of the WOW building had formerly been a retail space but through a very lucky series of events WOW took a chance on me and allowed the show to take place in their building. Over 2,000 people attended opening night. Media ranging from NPR to the National Enquirer covered it. Now it's by far the hippest gallery in LA. I love those guys.

Mystikka: I remember hearing an interview where you told the story of how you came up with the idea of Golden Gals Gone Wild. I enjoyed hearing about how you saw a topless painting of Bea Arthur on ebay, decided to buy it, and then got such a strong reaction from your friends, which led to the idea to put on the show. It’s always inspiring when someone has a great random idea and then follows it through successfully. Do you have any advice for other creative people who are looking to get inspired and manifest their own artistic goals?

Lenora: I suppose the best advice is that you have to follow your heart and not the trend. If something moves you enough to become an obsession run with it. People tend to ignore their gut when really the answers are right there in you.

Mystikka: You recently had dinner at The Playboy Mansion, any highlights of that adventure you care to share?

Lenora: Getting to feed the monkeys grapes with Olivia still puts a smile on my face.

Mystikka: What is your day to day life like, aside from all your creative endeavors and accomplishments?

Lenora: I'm really focused on my goals right now so I would say I spend a portion of the day obsessing over my tv project, a portion of the day working and obsessing on my upcoming art show with Olivia, several hours keeping up with everything on social networking sites like myspace and facebook, an unhealthy amount of time negotiating on the phone, and quality time with my friends and dog Ellie.

My best friend Robert has always told me my life was like a circus, that I always have a ‘cast of characters’ around me. He has always found each of my friends to stand out in their own way, while remaining very different from each other.

Even in high school I never belonged to a clique. I befriended members of the drama club, the cheerleading squad, the gangs, etc. I never understood the mindset of Goths disliking hippies, straights not liking gays, Christians opposing Pagans, etc. No matter how unique we are or how many differences we have with others, we can always find common ground with anyone if we pay attention.

The MetaCreative journey honors both uniqueness and oneness by uncovering and discovering the essence of originality through artistic expansion, which comes as a result of tapping into the creative intelligence that ultimately connects us all. I believe that the creative intelligence is the energy at the source of all nature and true understanding. The exploration of this energy is just as metaphysical as it is artistic.

The content that MetaCreative Magazine showcases may challenge what some perceive as metaphysical. In the same way the mass public’s view of the world is shaped partially by things like reality television shows and the news, the western new age culture has its own popular preconditioned ideas and consensus viewpoints that are affected by films like ‘The Secret,’ or whatever books have hit the bestseller lists. The more successful a metaphysical author is in the mainstream market, the more the media celebrates those authors and the messages they are here to teach. And the more we see certain speakers being honored on the radio, on television or on well promoted lecture circuits, the more we accept societies definitions about metaphysical culture.

Lightworkers, new agers, metaphysicans, or whatever you want to call them, are no different than any other group of people who are seeking inner peace or spiritual answers. Leaders stand out among any group or religious affiliation, yet the majority of people are followers, ‘sheeple’ as I sometimes have heard them called. Many leaders have found benefits to being followers at one point in time in their lives, because sometimes when our own inner voice is not as clear as we wish it was, it is easier to look outside of ourselves and watch what other people we admire are doing. At that point, we follow along hoping to learn something, and then we arrive at a certain point in our journey where we have new ideas and potential directions beckoning at us.

If we have become emotionally attached to our groups and affiliations, it is common to suppress the urges that go outside of the comfort zone of our community. Many people around us will scoff at what they don’t understand, or place judgment upon us for exploring new options.

“Who does she think she is for not coming to our group/service/get togethers? She must think she is too good for us!”

“Did you see the new friends she’s been hanging out with? They all seem like a bunch of weirdos to me!”

The prior statements can be dressed up in many different eloquent ways so they don’t seem so base and critical. Regardless, many sheep don’t like it when one of their own starts to leave the flock. And because we live in a society where cliques are the norm and approval addictions are rampant, we often remain in the confines of a limiting group or situation and learn to ignore our own discontent, or cover it up with life’s activities and emotional distractions.

The MetaCreative Journey is the experience of going beyond all of societies conditioning and structures so that you may experience the richness, color, vibrancy and divinity of your souls unique expression. It’s about challenging the norm and being proud to raise your flag no matter what colors and patterns it shows. It’s about appreciating the diversity in the world and the different forms metaphysics and art can take. MetaCreative Magazine is simply a catalyst for the journey.

Hey Loves!

I've been through some challenges, and today I realized that I need to take charge of clearing away the negative and replacing it with something positive. When the going gets rough, I believe it's best to be a blessing to someone else. That may go against the ego, but it refreshes the spirit and empowers you... but this cannot be forced. The universe will provide an opportunity for you to be a blessing if you ask for it to. And then, we just go about our business as usual with a quiet mind and open heart and know the opportunity once it arrives. At that point, we do what we can and drop it. We do not seek praise, thanks, or gratification. We are humble, happy to be of purpose and service. Something shifts... and the energy around us cycles back to faith, peace and positive expectancy. At this point we can have a turn around... in our minds... and in our circumstances.

Life does get difficult, yet the hard times do not have to blind us to the deeper connections we make with others, the pearls of wisdom we attain, or the new paths that open once we went down a course that was temporarily uncomfortable.

We may break down in tears or want to, but we keep on going because the light in our souls knows there is a reason to move forward. There are hidden blessings everywhere that can get revealed at any time. We will have a turnaround and numerous blessings will be unlocked.

Do you have a sore throat?

Three people told me today alone that they have a sore throat... so I thought I would pass my favorite remedy along to all of you. I have tried lemon, honey, apple cider vinegar, chamomile, echinacea, golden seal and NUMEROUS other herbs when I have had sore throats (which are common this time of year)... but I must tell you what works above and beyond anything else I have tried.

CLOVE TEA is the answer!!!

I personally use ground cloves for this. You only need a half of a teaspoon of ground cloves for a 6 ounce cup of tea. I like to mix it with cinnamon and ginger, but the cloves are the magic ingredient. Clove tea provides instant relief to a horrible sore throat!

Approval Addictions

If we would free up the space in our minds rented by tedious matters, we could free ourselves from mental oppression and emotional depression.

If 'he said / she said' was no longer an issue, imagine the inner resources we could make room for in our lives, and the great things we could accomplish with those tools!

If we would just stop wondering when he or she would call or give us the time of day...

If we stopped trying to show so and so that we were worthy of their time and attention... and the way they see or feel about us was no longer our priority or concern..

If we no longer obsessed over the way we stumbled over ourselves in their presence and said all the 'wrong' things..

If we could just let go of our approval addictions...

We would become forces to be reckoned with!

If we would simply focus on our strengths instead of our weaknesses, and found gratitude in the love that is available to us everywhere instead of keeping our attention on the love we haven't achieved from some unaware, unappreciative person... we would be empowered!

Your mental space is more valuable and precious than we can imagine! Let us be conscious about our inner resources and how we are using them. Life is short, let us make the most of it!

Artist and animator, Miss Lucky Lulu is one of the coolest and most talented peeps I have had the pleasure of working with on MetaCreative Magazine. Sometimes for fun, she takes my artwork and turns them into pulsating GIFs. This is what she did with my recent psychedelic piece 'Magic Cubes.' Late night/early morning thoughts...

What you think of as 'missed opportunities' are simply opportunities to travel in a different direction...

If you got what you thought you wanted, you may not have wanted what you got once it became yours...

The only real success in life is happiness. When we are focused on getting, we can never have enough. First, we want a bigger house (or a better job), then we want a maid to clean the house (or different coworkers, better hours, or better pay), then we don't like the maid we get (or the boss we get), and so on and so forth. Happiness does not come from superficial success, worldly status or achieving materialistic gain...

When you can be happy regardless of external circumstances, you are successful. If you define success by what other people think of you, then you are not thinking for yourself. People pleasing and approval seeking leads to a path of insecurity, no matter who you are, what you do, or how much of their approval you can temporarily muster up for the time being...

Peacefulness, true happiness (the kind that isn't fleeting) and humble confidence are part of the same package...

The most wonderful moments are the ones where you spontaneously give something of great meaning and help to another person without expecting anything in return. When you give without thinking about 'getting a blessing' or 'creating good karma' and give ONLY for the OPPORTUNITY of BEING a blessing, you will become blessed beyond measure.

These are a few thoughts that are on my mind this morning...

What should I avoid sending you as a submission for the zine?

We are not currently accepting poetry (except for in special issues), nor do we accept flash or animated GIF based art (this may change very soon).

We are not accepting stories and/or articles that have no spiritual or conscious, redeeming message in them. We are not accepting unedited written material that has a number of misspellings or serious grammatical errors in it.

We are not accepting any material in which you did not create yourself or that you do not own the rights to distribute. We are NOT accepting content that is referred to us via a website or download, or content that we have to chase after in some other way.

ALL content MUST be submitted as per the instructions below:

Mercury Retrograde - told my way - by Mystikka

Many of you know this stuff already, but for those who don't ... here is a little summary on Mercury Retrograde told my way.

If you have noticed any missed, delayed or confusing communication involving other parties over the past couple of weeks, welcome to the wondrous world of Mercury Retrograde!

During a Mercury Retrograde, external events in the outside world involving people, machinery, and goals trigger and test us. We find ourselves faced with old issues in both new and familiar forms. We are more compelled than usual to retreat inward in order to process uncompleted lessons.

Although it may feel as if we are being dropped toward the bottom of the ocean floor, the ground provides a panel to push off from so that we are able to advance forward with renewed resolve and more momentum than before. We become blessed with more certainty about what we want to offer to ourselves, and the world around us.

Because things do not transpire as planned, Mercury Retrograde teaches us to detach from expectations we may have in regard to the package in which our opportunities are ‘supposed to’ arrive in. Surviving a retrograde with our spirits in tact requires us to hold positive thoughts in the midst of these challenges. We do so by remaining open to the timing and unexpected mediums in which our blessings will play out. When we are fully receptive, we may receive these blessings in their full capacity.

People may react to us from their own disorganization, overwhelming stress and pressure, and other challenges in their own lives during a Mercury Retrograde. Their behavior may come across in ways that appear to be disrespectful or flaky. Because misunderstandings are so common at this time, it seems to be more important than usual to avoid making too many assumptions about the motivations or intentions of other people. Nothing that anyone does that affects us now is really as personal as it feels. If you must stop into The Pity Room for tea, read a good book about forgiveness while you are there. Soon, you will dust yourself off and move on to better things.

Mercury Retrograde ends on November 1st, although the effects will be felt until November 11th, when Mercury returns to its pre-retrograde station in Scorpio.

Venus Retrograde, hook ups and break ups.

Hey y'all...

I hope that each and every one of you are doing well and that the Venus retrograde that begins today is an empowering, self-realizing one.

I was looking back at the past Venus retrograde dates, and I realized that I got together with my most serious relationship of all time, during a Venus retrograde. I also broke up with that person during a separate Venus retrograde... AND I met my most recent ex in person for the first time during a retrograde... and we had our most final break up during another retrograde. So I seem to hook up and break up during these Venus retrogrades. I don't believe that this is a coincidence. The Universe has a Divine organization and order and everything is more interconnected than science can ever prove, more in sync than the human mind could ever comprehend.

I am very happy with my choice right now to remain single.... in my reality freedom is absolutely priceless. It's great to be able to live my life without feeling like someone is hovering around trying to change me or get me to compromise my values and priorities.

Relationships seems to always end up always being about some sort of sacrifice for the benefit of what? Affection? I can get affection from my friends and I don't need all that much of it. Sex? Well, if you want to get off, another person is not required for that. I know that I am the square peg in the round hole in society for saying this but... sex is overrated. Is it ever really worth the drama that is attached to it?

Intimacy can come in many forms, and sex is not the highest form of intimacy, nor is it the most fulfilling form for me. More on this topic later....

Leaving 'them' Behind

Hey Loves, I am back online! I am really glad that the mercury retrograde is over. I am telling you; those weeks of planetary backwardness were bringing another level of haywire to my life than I can remember experiencing in years. It seems everyone I know was going through breakdowns of communication, cars, air conditioners, appliances, computers and phones.

Despite delays and complications, the latest issue of MetaCreative Magazine has been released and I also got a couple of new podcasts up and running as well, including an interview with Derek Humphry (euthanasia expert) and a new indie music playlist episode. I have more MetaCreative Radio episodes in the works and am currently assembling September's issue of the magazine.

On a more personal front, as my life gets busier and my actions become more inspired, I realize I have less time and inclination to dabble in the things that I used to devote my energy and resources to in the past. Not everyone from my past understands this, a few of them are still doing the same things they did 5 –10 years ago and have strong opinions that I should be doing the same.

I remember listening to Joyce Meyer speak once about how before she had her hugely successful ministry, she worked with a particular church where she would teach bible studies. After church every Sunday, she would get together with a group of women from her congregation and they would go out for coffee and have gossip sessions about the preacher and other members of the church.

Joyce considered this group of people to be the crux of her social life, but she was becoming increasingly dissatisfied as she realized she was filling up her time, thoughts and energy with petty drama. As she began to withdraw from this group, the women in her social circle began to assume the worst of her and became resentful and angry. They began to do and say judgmental, catty things to make Joyce's position at the church uncomfortable. It was difficult to do, but she left that church, even though for over a lonely year following this decision she had no real spiritual direction about what to do next.

If Joyce had not walked in faith and left that church, and had instead continued to devote her energy toward fitting in with her old crowd, she would not have been able to be where she is today, affecting people's lives with the magnitude that she does.

Remember, change is inevitable and healthy. Don't allow other people to create guilt for you when it comes to your own evolution. This is the advice I am taking for myself today.

dealing with unreasonable people

In the past when I have had to deal with unreasonable people, I would allow my ego to get involved and caught up in a tit for tat game of trying to prove myself and my intentions to the person who was trying to engage me in a power struggle.

Sometimes I would get a temporary feeling of satisfaction when my words were cleverly strung together and I would ‘tell it like it is’ and leave them stammering. Even though I would win the battle, I would lose the war. I would lose because subconsciously my motivation was to win the other person’s approval or understanding, which left me dependant on their perceptions of me to validate my own self worth.

In actuality I knew better. I would tell my clients that peace of mind was always more important than being ‘right.’ I have also always appreciated receiving constructive criticism when delivered in a truly loving and helpful way. But every so often, someone would come around and attack me with twisted assumptions about my character or intentions. When this would happen, I just could not seem to resist giving the verbal abuser a piece of my mind in an attempt to straighten them out or even the score, no matter what the cost.

I believe that there is always a time to stand up for our truth. If we are able to speak our minds in a way that honors our integrity and spirit, growth for everyone involved can take place.

But every now and then we will find ourselves confronted with violent opposition from an unreceptive person who seems to be intent on breaking us down or contributing to our failure and demise. As we evolve spiritually, these people will come into our path to test our ability to respond in a way that embraces the values of spiritual love and an adherence to the principles we have been learning about and implementing into our path.

Having an intellectual understanding of spiritual principles does not equate to directly applying those tools. In order to live what we know, we must first digest and internalize our lessons and wisdom. In order to gain said lessons and refine our skills, there are times when we must move through obstacles. These tests are not here to punish us, despite the unpleasant feelings they often stir within us. Rather, they are here to help us strengthen our ability to transcend difficulty so that we may become stronger and more affirmed in our purpose and convictions.

I just wanted to write a quick note to check in with you. I need to be devoting most of my time right now to my psychic work (how I pay the bills) and other mundane issues that have come up around me that need my attention. This Mercury Retrograde is a pretty intense one. My cell phone is broken and I am waiting 5-10 days for my replacement to arrive. Due to some recent drama that knocked the wind out of me, I have been questioning my new path and some of the responsibilities that I have taken on with my creative projects. I know that obstacles like this must be overcome in order for me to grow as a person and as a businesswoman. I promised myself I would not make any rash decisions while I am feeling overwhelmed. I will wait out this phase I am in, knowing it will pass. I look forward to the time when I can update you with something interesting and inspirational.

MetaCreative Magazine in Print?

Hello! To those of you who like to stay updated through my blog… I’ve been insanely busy as things have been moving along quickly over here. Thanks for hanging in there with me despite the lack of entries.

I have been exploring the possibility of getting MetaCreative Magazine printed and distributed in recycled paper format. The first issue of the online PDF received so many hits it crashed my website and I had to increase my bandwidth. I love getting all the positive feedback that is still pouring in from those of you who are reading it. It’s exciting to see a project gain momentum.

I have a lot to sort out on the business end of things before I can get a solid timeframe for release of the print edition. If anyone reading this has experience launching a magazine and feels gracious enough to advise me on the business side of things, I am interested in hearing what you have to say. MetaCreative Magazine is now accepting your creative contributions for the July 1st issue! The deadline is June 1st - so send your work ASAP if you would like your art to be showcased or your articles to be featured!

Submitting work is easy! Just send jpegs of your art (or a word doc or text file of your article) with a short bio and links to mystikka@mystikka.com with 'submission' in the headline.

I have put together a detailed FAQ for anyone who has additional questions. Reading the whole FAQ can be daunting, so let me just highlight that every day I get letters from people telling me to go to their website and check out their work. The truth of the matter is I am a lot busier than people realize and it saves me time if you send the content to me as directed instead of asking me to chase it down through a website. I simply do not have enough hours in the day to do this.

I look forward to receiving your creatively conscious articles as well as your mind expanding artwork. Article topics should relate to the creative process in some way.

Personal and professional update

Hello everyone!

I have been in a whirlwind of busy-ness lately so I thought I would pause to say HELLO to those who drop by!

The past two weeks have been hard on me… a couple of weeks ago I went through some pretty intense family issues which reaffirmed that I need to continue to go in my own direction. My family lives about an hour away from me right now and I took comfort in knowing how close they were to me in distance. However, even though I have always known that I was not really the black sheep in the family, but more like the lion who never fit into the flock of sheep, now I realize on a whole new level what a huge contrast my way of thinking, feeling and living is to those people. I can’t conform to fit into their comfort zones, so it’s time for me to go through another level of detachment.

So after all that drama went down, I went to Arizona last week, which ended up being pretty interesting. I saw a couple of friends I hadn’t seen in ages and I searched for a new residence and my result was inconclusive. I am not certain if I will be moving there or not. I was going to head back up there this weekend, but my body had other plans and decided to get sick on me. So… I must listen and deal with the delays.

Now I am reverting back to my old plans about checking out New Mexico before I decide for certain where I want to relocate.

In the midst of all this, I have been building up my profile for MetaCreative Radio on myspace, so if you haven’t added that page to your profile yet, please do!!

I have also sent out a bulletin for volunteers to help me put together MetaCreative Magazine (an art and culture e-zine with a metaphysical undertone), and I am happy to say I have had a few very positive and seemingly reliable responses. Mini biography

Katherine Brooks was raised in a small town in Louisiana. She left home at an early age to move to Los Angeles. Her father was a Real Estate Broker and her mother, a housewife.

She has an extensive list of film and television credits. She has directed three seasons of the Emmy-Award winning show, The Osbournes, the highly acclaimed show Newlyweds, starring Jessica Simpson, and MTV's groundbreaking The Real World. Katherine also directed and produced The Simple Life with Paris Hilton and the controversial pilot for FOX, Coming Out. She recently helmed He's A Lady for TBS, Town Haul for TLC, MTV's There and Back and the new season of Meet the Barkers with Blink182 drummer Travis Barker.

Now focusing on her film work, Brooks has garnered dozens of awards including The Emerging Filmmaker Award at the Italian Film Festival and the Grand Jury Prize at the Chicago Film Festival. Her films have played at over 100 festivals around the world and she gained critical praise for her short films, Finding Kate and Dear Emily. Dear Emily can be seen on the compilation DVD entitled Watching You.

The recent debut of her first feature film, Loving Annabelle, is a story about a Catholic schoolteacher who falls in love with her student. Written and directed by Brooks, the movie made its premier at the prestigious Cinequest Film Festival in 2006. The movie stars Erin Kelly, Diane Gaidry and Academy Award Nominee/Golden Globe recipient, Kevin McCarthy, and won several awards.

Currently, Katherine is writing her next feature Waking Madison, a story that takes place in her home town of New Orleans and Los Angeles. Her cult following on MySpace has also garnered many fans due to her inspirational blogs that promote a refreshing outlook on life.

As many of you know, THE SECRET is exploding into the mainstream media. Oprah did two shows featuring THE SECRET (the law of attraction). Her second show aired today. I thought it was great and it reaffirmed my thought that Oprah is a Goddess… lol. She really is an illuminating angel. Rev. Michael Beckwith and James Ray really brought out the best in her because she could so easily relate to them on their own spiritual level.

I updated my myspace page

with a whole new design.

I had an amazing birthday yesterday, beautiful comments kept pouring in and it was a great feeling!

I finally finished my ebook, 'The Love Crisis Survival Guide' and it is for sale on

You can read the introduction and first two chapters on the above site as well. I am still making small edits here and there, but the content is suitable for sale. :-)

The press release will go out in about a month and I will be making more announcements at that time.

I have some other cool stuff in the works and I will keep all of you who are interested up to date here in my blog. Thanks to everyone who has offered me their support!!
